Is it really only 12 months since the last sale, time flies.
Anyway catalogues are now available on line, www.meltonmowbraymarket.co.uk or from the auctioneers on 01664 562971.
Show day Fri 8th, Sale day Sat 9th Sept
53 entries,
8 bulls, 2 of which at least are stage 1 elite,
20 cows,10 senior heifers,16 junior heifers born 2005 and 2006
Its nice to see a good number of show stock put forward, raising the quality and worth of the sale. Also remember that all stock will be inspected by 3 DCS officials, so you can buy with confidence.

54 Dexters is much about the usual number for the National Show and Sale. It is the quality of animals which will dictate the price, not the number available on that scale. Hopefully the inspection system will be beginning to raise the quality of animals at Melton, and we will see some high prices again. Several made four-figure prices last year, lets be optomistic for those who are selling as far as the price goes, and for those who purchase as far as quality goes.

Duncan, (regretablly not involved in any capacity this year.)

I am not aware that the inspection is to be any different. I think 3 inspectors were identified, myself included, but I am unable to go whereas I understand the other two can. If there are any significant changes perhaps someone else can enlighten us.

Prices last year were good, but so was the quality of animals on offer.

Hopefully this year will be the same.

If going I suggest getting there early, the market parking was full when we got there, had to pay for two bays in the council parking next door for car and trailer.

Good advice SteveM.
There are 2 Moomin in calf red heifers entered as late entries.
See cattle for sale list on this site for details, and a picture!!!

Thankyou Mark for putting the red heifers on the sale list. I really appreciate all the time and effort you and Chris put into this website, it really helps us all keep in touch.
I didn't think I could get to Melton because of staff holidays so I hadn't entered, but now it is possible.
Bit upset we shan't see Duncan though.
The two red heifers are the ones I entered last year but couldn't go as they had the dreaded warts! Their pedigrees etc. are in last years catalogue. I will have extended pedigrees with me at the sale for anybody to collect. Please contact me if you want any more information.

Just thought i would bring this topic back to the top of the list.
From what i here the sale should be well attended. this year it seems to be advertised better as well.
You can spend a fortune travelling miles to look at dexter herds trying to find the right animal for you, with 56 forward then just maybe there will be the one youre looking for there. Dont forget there will be hundreds of pedegree rare breed sheep for sale as well, plus there is a big rare breed poutry sale on the Saturday.A good day out!
See you there,
Mark
