It is being broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 4-00pm on Monday 23rd January 2006. I heard the first 15 minutes and Dexters get a mention between the Highlands and the Angus. It is of particular interest to the Brits, sorry International friends, discussing the legislation regarding selling Beef on the Bone and the removel of the spinal chord.

I think I can still finish steers on grass by 24 months but it is tight as we like a decent amount of fat so the carcase can be hung for over 3 weeks. What do others think? Perhaps the real losers are the other traditional breeds that need over 3 years to be right.
Nevertheless, I hope a special concession may be won but who will do the fighting? not the NFU as the commercial boys get their animals off before 24 months as do the French... only quality meat producers will have a problem. Oh rats!

I listened with some care to this programme, what a lunatic mix-up. To appease the big commercial exporters, the small, quality producers are being placed in a worse situation than when the 30 month rule existed. It also looks as if small abbatoirs are going to be even more disadvantaged than at present. The one I use will not jump through the hoops required for over 30 month old animals, It will not be economic to have the suggested £80 added to processing costs for over 24 month old animals, and in any case it was suggested that these could not be hung at all. Which is, as I understand it, a necessary part of the process. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
