merry christmas and happy new year to all dexter keepers. I have a question completely unrelated to dexter matters but hope someone can help. I realise most of you probably keep animals other than dexters. Does anyone know which breed of dog 'Fang' is in Harry Potter. My husband wants one for his birthday in two weeks time (12.1.06) so I am in a bit of a panic. We currently have an old Great Dane who is very lonely due to loss of boxer and he would love a friend. We have lots of space and are certainly animal friendlyl. Any information regarding where I would find such a dog/puppy would be welcome!. I am well aware such an animal would not come cheap and would avoid any puppy farms like the plague.

Not really a film addict, haven't seen any of the Harry Potter ones right through, but I think it may be a Neapolitan Mastiff.
Have a look at the breed profile on petplanet.co.uk Hopefully someone else will leap in and correct me if I am wrong.

Check out the Harry Potter fan website. There's bound to be one and if you ask the same question there, someone is sure to be able to give you the answer.

Hello Jean
I took Inger's advice and found the dog is supposed to be a boar hound which is the old name for, guess what, a Great Dane. I wonder if it was computer enhanced because it didn't look anything like the 2 I used to have years ago. Do let us know how you get on.

Do you know that Mastiff puppies are selling for $1200 around here? That's what I would ask for a registered Dexter heifer! In fact, after reading the for sale ads in a local rag, I feel I should be into dog breeding, not cattle. No wonder there are puppy farms if folks are so willing to part with such big bucks for a dog (and certain breeds of cats too). ???

Sounds like we should be persuading Hogwarts to keep some Dexters?!

I've always thought of the school as being somewhere up near Duncan, perhaps he could give them a call and see if they need some "Wizard" cattle?

Sorry Peter, it must be the school of Hogwash, not Hogworts that is near me.
Whats all the excitement about price of a dog, the last Dexter sold matched the £1000. Just can't seem to get the same number in a litter though.

Did your husband get his puppy for his birthday?
