Genus costs

Post by Mark Bowles »

I have had notification from Genus today that they are imposing a price increase from 1st September. They are increasing their handling costs to £3 + vat, the problem being that they are putting into place a minimum charge of £25 (plus vat I assume), this now makes the movement/handling/purchase of 2 or 3 straws rather expensive, I am lead to believe the technician service is not that brilliant either. This all puts more pressure on the many dexter owners that don't have their own bull.

We have no option but to have a bull as its a few years since Genus decided there weren't enough cattle locally for them to visit our area. Unless we have them syncronised.

Many thanks for the money saving tip.

I can see their point. Genus tell me that the money they make is on selling straws not inseminating cattle. What happens is someone orders a couple of straws and they go directly into the technicians flask where they may linger for a while and the purchaser does not pay any storage charges currently running at £9.54 per month (inc vat) minimum charge.

It is worrying from a disease aspect as we will be having more bulls moving about. I have always found it strange that people borrowing bulls are able to locate one for their 'breeding programme' nearby.

I think you already know the answer to that.
