Wanted: very tiny cow

Post by Louisa Gidney »

I'm now into follow up work from the thesis. One topic I have yet to explore in detail is that of the very tiny cows, c. 0.85m or less in height. What Beryl Rutherford used to call "cow kittens", shorter than the ordinary short-leg, below the breed standard. I'd be interested to know if anyone has one, can I visit it to photograph, 5 generation pedigree. Could even buy an adult cow if there's one for sale.

I should point out that since |'m interested in animals that are off the breed standard, I will not publicise the identity of either animals or owners and am happy to be contacted off forum.

Thanks Macbob, I knew about Swallow but not Archie. I'm trying to get a feel of whether these tiny cows do contribute the c.2-3% of the population that they ought to statistically, as being beyond the 95% of the population that should fall within 2 SD of the mean. Balanced, of course, by an equal number at the other end of the scale. In large archaeological samples, 2-3% is about right and this is the aspect I'm interested in exploring further.

Please can I emphasise the VERY tiny cow wanted aspect of this thread. The tiny cow I've been offered turned out to be 37 inches in height, which is in the normal short-leg range. I'm interested in animals less than 34", preferably c. 30". Photos with something measurable to give an idea of scale would be appreciated before arranging a visit or purchase.
