I thought I would write a note to let other French readers know the problems encountered with importing dexter semen to France. The actual process of buying and exporting the semen is easy, UK Sire Services were faultless , the whole process expensive and time consuming with the extra veterinary certification needed, you need to leave a good 6 weeks between order and delivery.
But the main problem lay in France once semen had been delivered !! The two bulls I chose to export Elmgrove Millenium and Stargate Sourceror had not been imported to France before so their details did not exist on the French National Sire Database. Therefore my AI company in France had to present a file for each of these bulls detailing - their pedigree, DNA information of bull and its parents, health certificates and to top it all they needed the bulls performance history and progeny history. Of course apart from the progeny records on the DCS datebase there is no performance records kept for our breeds, so this proved a stumbling block - after loads or telephone calls and emails another 6 weeks after the semen was imported I now have the go ahead to 'officially' use the semen in France.
SO I ordered the semen on 16 October and today I have the go ahead to use it !!! Just a little warning for any future buyers of semen to France !!

Re: Exporting Dexter Semen to France
Is the bulls performance not measured by its progeny?
(Or is it the way he sashays in round the barn door in something well cut and double breasted and holds a nonchalant pose before setting about his duties bringing the crowd to its feet as he does so! )
Sorry its been a long week!

Thanks for the reminder about why I never want to move to France - we're supposed to both be in the EU! By contrast, importing into the UK is far easier, the authorities here don't even want to know the breed of the bull, nevermind the quality of his progeny!
