Just received the above and the same day accepted an offer on the Smallholding! Assuming they won't be any use to me in NZ - first posted response gets them for £5 to Sargent Cancer Care for Children.

Peter

ps Anyone interested in Oakern Topaz (Red Heifer 05/04 - Horned).

Hi there
Can you tell me what is in a herd book ?? Is it like a stud book for horses - tells you when a calf was born and it's pedigree.

Am interested if so

Thanks
Jo

Herd Book is a list of births in 2004 with Name, Dam, Sire, Sex, Colour, Eartag etc The Herd Survey is a list of Herds with current (Dec 04) stock. Let me know if you want one or both?

I'd love access to a copy of the UK Herd book. :;): Without having the Herd Book on the internet, it can be very difficult to work out an extended pedigree.

Before you come to NZ, how about trying to convince the council that putting the Dexter Herd Book on the internet, would be a really good idea. :D

How is your move to NZ going?

Too late - I have sent it to Jo.

Accepted an offer on the smallholding, sold or presold most of the stock and if it goes smoothly through to a contract (in about 6 weeks) we hope to hit NZ in October. Then about a month touring looking for a place (may buy barebones and build a house if we don't find what we want).

We'll try and arrange nice Spring weather to greet you then. :D What area are you touring? Or is it a general 'round both Islands kind of tour? Did you know that there are bus tours that go around each Island? One company I know of is the 'Kiwi Experience' bus tours. They cover both Islands (different tours though) and you can get off the bus and stay at any place that takes your fancy, for however long you like, then get back on the next bus that comes through. There are multiple buses doing the same circuit you see, so you're not confined to only spending a short time in each place. The price you pay, covers either the North Island circuit or the South Island one. I believe you can do both and get a discount. Not sure about that, but they have a website, so you should be able to get all the information you need. Its always easier to look at the scenery, if you're not driving. :;): I hope the packing goes well. You'll have to give us a ring when you reach the Bay of Islands in Northland. We'd love to show you around our place. The area is a tourist attraction because of the scenery. How do I go about sending you our contact details?

Sale No 1 just fell through but we have a second buyer semi - lined up (maybe). I like Kerikeri my wife likes Nelson so we may communicate by e-mail! We will buy a 4x4 on arrival (or should that read if we arrive) and cruise for a month looking for properties. My e-mail address is above for the telephone Number.

Not sure I want to leave now - my Cobthorn cow has just had a lovely little heifer calf!

Thanks

Peter

ps my NZ agricultural advisor (neice) says I should switch from Dexters to either Aberdeen Angus or Murray Greys - any comment?
