High Health Dexter Bull

Post by sunoak »

I have a small herd of Dexters and need to change my short legged bull. I also have a pedigree herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle that are in a High health scheme and are free of BVD, IBR Lepto and Johnes, the dexters are also registered in the scheme so any animal I bring on the farm must meet this health status.

Any ideas where I could purchase a bull with high health status?

You seem to be narrowing the search for a bull there rather alot Keith and you might not get much - if any choice. Would it be possible to get a potential bull tested at your expense in order to be able to choose the bull that you want? Is that allowed? I don't have a bull for sale, so I'm not trying to sell you a bull!

Thanks Stephanie, yes that is an option, but to be accredited they need 2 clear tests 12 months a part. However, one clear test will allow me to have him home and we would have to isolate him with the dexter girl until the second test, difficult but not impossible.

I am member of a health scheme and have a non-short, red, young bull for sale. He is accredited IBR, L.Hardjo, BVD but as they have moved the goal posts for Johne's to three tests not yet accredited for that.
