Thank you
No, but as far as I know from other farmers on a farming forum, Morrisons is the only one that makes a clear statement that their fresh (only non-poultry I think) meat is non-Halal (and I assume that means stunned or otherwise). I believe other supermarkets have gone down the line of saying all their meat is stunned without saying whether it's stunned-Halal or normal. From what I read, a lot of meat is now stunned Halal. M&S, TESCO, Waitrose, Sainsbury's all do it according to the press.

Halal stunning is not the same as normal. Not saying it's no good, but it's not the same.

We supply some beef cattle to ASDA and we know the abattoir we use for them is normal slaughter. Well it was last time I asked, but I shall get an update next time I supply.

We've had the phone calls as well but won't supply.

Looks like he is targetting the dexter marketplace to pick up beef on the cheap, without having to pay market price for commercial stock.

This was on the board only a few weeks ago, just look at the first few cows for sale in the for sale section. decent looking cows and calves £450 the pair, thats mad.
Whats going on with prices, beef is flying yet dexters are on their arse. seems wrong.

Me too.

There's halal and there's halal and strictly speaking it should extend to the whole of the animals life, not just it's death. An animal killed that is in any way stressed is not halal, by the book, but there are few halal abattoirs I would trust & would certainly need to see them in action before using one.

I don't like using fire arms, so I don't have any, but I am much happier using a sharp knife in an emergency and certainly find it less stressful for all concerned. It can certainly be done well with a gun but I have seen it go wrong too many times to automatically assume that it always is better. With a good sharp knife and a clean cut across the throat the drop in blood pressure is very, very quick, I was amazed how quick the first time I saw it done. I've also noticed less post slaughter twitching in large animals where the brain hasn't been stunned. The thing I find odd is the number of people who are against no-stun slaughter, but who are quite happy to neck a rabbit or bird.

That's because the vast majority are 'pet' owners.

Just a quick update, very thankfully our two non short legged ladies and their calves have gone to a very nice home today. Alive and for breeding, a lovely young farming couple starting out with Dexters, breeding for Beef.

Huge thanks to Mark for this Site, quite literally a lifesaver!

Best Wishes
