Are there any tips from the planet vulcan about putting very hurt backs right? (mine not the cows') I'm writing this standing up as I now have 2 postures: flat on my back or upright but not much in between. Better than last week though when I had only one. Yours nearly 60 going on 180 but look what i've missed. Getting the hay in, hoof trimming the cows, all the work on the lambs which couldn't wait. What is it that's said? Every cloud has a silver lining. Maybe I could get used to this merely supervisory role.!!
Sylvia, it's your body's way of saying ' I must only do ONE heavy job per day no matter how urgent the jobs are in my owner's mind.' It's the price we pay for the number of years we've lived. My back usually comes right after a few weeks of gentle stretching excercises. Then I try to remember not to push it next time. I well remember the sudden twinges if I turned too quickly, or in an awkward way. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sylvia,
I treat back and other injuries for a living.
I suggest you find a Sports Injury Therapist near you.
Or how far are you from me? Abergavenny.
I could write you out some advice if you send me a personal message telling me:
How long you have had the problem.
Is it recurring?
Did it come on suddenly?
Does it ache or is it a sharp pain?
Does anything ease it e.g. warm bath?
Which part of your back is involved?
Is it affecting your range of movement, if so in what way?
Do you suffer from arthritis or osteoporosis?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Stephanie

Is there anyone who DOESN'T have a sore back??? Sometimes mine "goes" suddenly and I can't straighten up or carry anything. Doesn't hurt, just doesn't respond to my command (and my husbands!) to "straighten up". Can last for days during which I entertain visions of a life in a wheelchair and having to sell all my animals. Horrible!

I too was saved from the breakers yard years ago by a chiropracter after hurting back calving a cow. I had 6 weeks of worsening pain and was almost having to walk with a stick at age of 42, all the conventional treatment made it worse, and fixed by one sesssion with a good chiropracter. She told me my back was saveable but only just, and recommended I get some serious exercise. That led me to try a gent's keep fit class run by a retired professional footballer, I still go almost every Monday, and after a year or two of that I began running, having been inactive sport wise since before leaving school. I have since run 10 10k races and whilst not exactly winning I have raised several thousand pounds for charity by running. It is amazing what a chiropracter can do.
