Following on from the the recent communication on worming policies etc., I was wondering how many breeders are registered with EBLEX Better Returns Programme. You can register with EBLEX (at no charge) and you will be invited to on farm beef/sheep events that they organise within your area. In addition they produce and send out quarterley bulletins which contain relevant topics re animal health, livestock and grassland management.
Contained in the spring bulletin is an article on Liver Fluke and Controlling Worms at Turnout. During 2011 22% of cattle and 6% of sheep slaughtered had their livers rejected due to liver fluke. In addition they have available a Parasite Products Guide which is an easy to read guide listing more than 100 cattle products and 70 sheep products. To obtain a copy call 0870 241 8829. For more infomation on the Better Returns Programme visit www.eblex.org.uk or ring 0870 241 8829.

Re: EBLEX Better Returns Programme
We've been to quite a few. Most are excellent, especially the days about grassland management and how to use grass to improve your herd performance. If you get the chance to go to one with the Welsh Grass Master, can't remember his name, he is brilliant and he certainly changed the way we run our farm.
There was just one disaster, which was a "Lamb Finishing" evening. They spent the first 45 minutes doing a demo of how to make beef sausages, yes, beef sausages, and then there was about 20 minutes of talking about lamb finishing, and then back to butchering. And not a lamb in sight anywhere! It really was quite bizarre, but not typical I'm glad to say.

Sounds good - just registered, but am waiting to see if the "The orgainisation for the English beef and sheep meat industry" will bump me when they realise I'm on the Isle of Skye. Hope not.
