Hi Monica, you said he might have to be slaughtered. Just thought I'd mention I just took a 32 month old rig in to ABP Shrewsbury. As usual, I am amazed by the weight of bulls/rigs. He wasn't big at all, in fact I thought he was underweight. He came back at 327kg deadweight. The standard price today is £2.20 a kilo (must be farm assured), but I assume he'll get knocked down a bit because he graded O+3, don't know yet but not much I hope!

If the owners are farm assured, don't forget if they lend him out, that they will loose that status and then couldn't slaughter him at ABP for another 90 days after he comes back. If non-FA, the value drops like a stone (less than half I think).

I think he will end up in Leek market for killing for what ever he makes which wont be the ideal way to sell, I doubt if owner is farm assured but he is being put under alot of pressure to move him

I know it's not relevant Monica, but as mentioned it, just thought I'd confirm I did get 220p /kilo DW, and ended up with £703.50 for my rig/bull. The price wasn't knocked down due to grade O+3. Cash received same week as kill. Quite pleased with that.
