Are you sure this bull is naturally polled?

He is not listed as polled, and none of his 250+ offspring are recorded as polled.

Some famous names in his pedigree though.

Polling is something that seems to cause confusion.

I have only kept Dexters for a few years but I have farmed all my life and it has come up again and again.

There have always been a number of people that call dehorning an animal polling - then refer to that animal as polled and they would call a polled animal - naturally polled and this I think is the problem, it certainly had confused me in the past.

Maybe this is why a number of Dexters that should really be down as horned have ended up being called polled? Just a guess.

Hi Monica,

I was the previous owner of this bull and he is definately NON POLLED, we only used him for 1 season whilst searching for a polled bull and all his calves have needed to be dis-budded.

Perhaps it is because there is a need to notify/register calves very early on. Some people think they are polled (and they turn out to be) but register them as horned just in case, as the buds could be late appearing.

Hi,
I was only supplying info given I should have clarified as some people do say polled when they mean dehorned I am sure Mark who owned the bull before Angus would know and thanks for correcting this info.
