I have a couple of females in a small paddock with the bull at the moment and there isn't very much grass in there, which is just as well as the bull tends to get a bit hefty. The one cow is very unimpressed with her new surroundings and bellows every time she can see me, so I when I walked past and she didn't come across I was quite relieved until I saw what she was doing! (The paddock had previously been used for horses so has a post and rail fence, which we have since added pig wire too, the other side of which there is a good 12 feet of very healthy maize.) This cow has learnt to put one front foot on the bottom rail, bounce up, lean in, grab a maize leaf, come down and eat it and repeat!!! I couldn't believe my eyes, the bull couldn't do it but was trying to stretch as he is taller with no success. I just hope the fence holds out.
