Calves for Rearing

Post by Jac »

Thought I would throw this one open to the floor. What prices would you be asking for calves under six weeks for double suckling or bucket feeding? Male and female please birth notified.

if you are referring to dexters then i would have thought you will struggle to find more than the odd one here and there, ours need to stay on the cows to drag some weight of the dams, if not they get to fat, you might pick the odd one up if someone has a poor or sick dam or no milk. would be very surprised to find any amount at one place. paul

I sometimes have phone calls from novices who are wanting a calf or two to rear and are surprised that there are never any advertised. For myself, I do not wish to buy any but am considering selling the next batch as I need the milk and do not wish to bucket feed calves as well, unless it is not financially viable to do otherwise.

oops i was assuming you wanted more calves for their beef value, but obviously you want the milk from your dexters. i don't know really, if you wanted to multi suckle calfs then £70-80 each working back from the prices of weaned animals,
