Our 33 year old farm worker would like to try general farm work in Australia or New Zealand for 6 months, does anyone out there have any contacts he could get in touch with?

Sorry Ann, I don't know of anyone looking for farm workers.
Perhaps he could try advertising in The Weekly Times or The Land newspapers.
They can be looked up on the web.

Hi Ann,

You couldn't do better than the WWOOF network.

WWOOF - Willing Worker on Organic Farms.
http://www.wwoof.com.au/

There's all sorts of places to stay and things to learn, most don't pay wages but give lodging, food etc... but it depends from farm to farm.

Eventually we'd like to have some accommodation to take WWOOFers.

They can meet up with people from all over the World so it's a great time for young people.

ann - Try the British Farming Forum. Although "British" it has farmers from all over the world on it and they help a lot with questions like this. You need to register and ask your question in the Agricultural Matters section.

Good luck.

Ann, I asked one of our locals what's happening on the work scene. This may be of no interest, but I have a list of employers, recommendations, etc if your fellow would be interested in orchard work or cotton. It says, "All? [employer]farms have accommodation, kitchens, tax forms, super, etc.' There's pages of stuff so if you'd like me to mail it to you, can you please go into my website and email me an address, or post your address on here if you like.

This local man is itinerant, but does own land & a house here. Once he was gone for so long in the one stretch, his mail piling up in his mailbox (we have the post office here as well as the pub) that I had the local Mr Plod check the house to see if anything nasty had happened. But no, our chap had taken himself off to motorbike across the US without telling anyone.
