Having totaly replaced my windows XP with Vista I am having another go at posting, this one is my first 3 calves of 2009 sheltering amongst the rushes and their mums.

Me too! Still trying to get an appropriate on line connection on to it though, as it doesn't like this current one, so still using XP for external.
Our occasionally resident radio tech advised me to Save As '97-'03 so that older versions can read documents. I had missed that implication on the Save As drop down, and it seems I was not the only one, so thought I would mention it here.

Have you any more pics of Dejay standing up and where has he gone if you dont mind me asking? He looks a good bull, I saw him as a very plain 9-12 month old he hadnt had the best of starts. I tried to see him once when we were up near Annan but unfortunately the owner was out

i will see if i have another pic somewhere. he had great conformation, a real back end. but unfortunately he failed to get most of my herd in calf last year so he has gone to the great restaurant in the sky.
the previouse year i had 30 calves from him. at scanning this year we failed to find a single cow in calf to him
he would be 10 this year so i didnt see any point in messing around.
he was a noble and magnificant beast and it was a real shame for him to end in those circumstances.

the black bull calf in the photo is one of his calves

I am really pleased with the crosses Dom, good shape and back muscle especially. All black and polled. I had one big one (backwards) and was up all night in minus 14C waiting for her to calve!!! If it hadn't been backwards it would have been easier, but I thought it was forwards and upside down so called the vet, I was so tired and cold. Most have been born without help and are just a bit bigger than my Dexters, but the heads just slip out. They grow very quickly after birth.

So no problem YET but another 20 to go. I would always want to be around at calving!

I bought the bull from a big old AA herd locally who have a "small" line, and they have another bull that I wanted. But I may have missed the boat, don't know yet as the guy has been ill so I can't speak to him. So it looks like I'll end up keeping him for another year, but then he has to go.
