Are there any funghi that are poisonous to cattle?

I found one of my steers with his head in the hedgerow the other evening munching through a 12 inch diameter reddish brown funghi that had fallen off one of the trees. Two days later he is fine so that particular one appears to be OK but it got me wondering.

Hello bj,

I think the one you mention sounds like chicken of the woods. If you go to Google and click for UK and put in - fungi chicken of the woods pic. You will see some illustrations and maybe decide if that is what it was, some brave souls call it a delicacy and slice it up and fry it.
