Heifer prices

I have recently be approached by a buyer wanting some animals i have offered some heifers with a calf at foot and soon to be in calf again. The heifers themselfs aren't particularly stunning but the calves are strong.
Does anyone know what sort of price i should be asking for incalf heifers with a calf at foot?

Lewis that is such a difficult question as it depends on so many things.

Do the heifers have heifer calves on them or bull calves?

How old are the calves?

How far in calf are they?

Are they tested in calf?

However to be honest with you Lewis - when all is said and done none of that matters a great lot compared too - how keen is the buyer!!!

I like to try to guess how keen my buyer is. Show them the stock, hope they like what they see and let them imagine them at home in thier own field! I never hurry them, then ask them to make me the best offer they can. This is usually followed by a long - very sad pause from me. Then I suggest a much higher price. Eventually hopefully we agree to split the difference.

Sometimes people don't like to make an offer and then it is harder to get the deal I want.

You need to decide for yourself what you want for them I think, look at the prices people are asking on here but remember that maybe there will be some dealing and the prices may come down a bit before they get sold. At the end of the day we all want to sell them.

There are 3 calves 2 bull and one hiefer calf by the way. The bull has only recenly gone in with them also. sorry should have given you more information.

Lewis - The bottom line on the calves is their eventual beef value, which may be a lot higher than you think. Calves can be worth as much or even more than mom; depends how old etc. If you post (or send me by PM) the details (ages, types, short, non-short) I'll send you a range of what I would charge. I have a table I work to for calves and I don't deviate from it, but for the cows, they could vary a great deal.

You need to give full details of the ages of the calves and the ages of the cows.

THe calfs are all march 11th - 15th the cows were all 2007 born and first time calvers i can get the exact details if you would like if you think it would help. All non short aswell.
