I would like to know why, when a type 1 & 8 combined vaccine should be available from mid-summer, that we still will not be able to use this despite type 1 being so prevalent in France? The powers that be have decided that this can only be used once there is an outbreak of Type 1 in England. Talk about closing the stable door aftyer the horse has bolted!

I didn't know that. I vaccinated for type 8 last August. So anything that was done then is covered for now. So only my youngstock are at risk. So I may just do my youngstock now with BTV8 and wait and see what happens vaccine-wise later in the year when hopefully the type 1 situation has become clear.
That means that the new vaccine BTV Pur8 is a non-starter because it can't be used on anything under 3 months of age.

I've just vaccinated the whole herd, including the ones done last year in June, with Intervet. I was supplied with a 50 ml bottle from last year's stock cheaper than 2x20ml bottles from this year's. So it was better for me to do the whole lot. For the calves not vaccinated last year I'm giving them the second dose soon, from a single 20ml bottle.
