The RASE today announced that this years Royal Show will be the last. They have concluded that it is no longer economically viable.
A sad day indeed, i wonder how many other shows up and down the country may be coming to the same conclusion. Foot and Mouth, Bluetongue and last years horendous weather has taken it's toll in recent years.
So.....come on you dexter owners, if you have not shown before, just go and do it, support the shows and support the breed.
Any questions, post a reply or give me a ring.

That sounds like a very big decision after all these years. Is that it or are they hoping to replace it with a slightly different sort of show? I must admit that we haven't attended during the last two years as the show had become more gardening and horsey than agricultural but I guess that is what the public wanted. Better make sure that we attend this year!

I'm sorry to say this but in my opinion having attended the Royal Show for the last 40+ years, the farming scene has changed dramatically in that time, but the Royal Agricultural Society has not. There has been a running debate for at least 25 years as to whether the Royal is a showcase for British Agriculture, a social event or a trade show. I regret that it has tried to be all these but has really failed to be any one of them and has descended to the level of not much more than a car boot sale. The success of the spin-off shows demonstrates that the reason given for the Royal's closing - that farmers don't have the money - is not valid.

:) The Royal show is one I have never been to, but our county show 'The Great Yorkshire show is going from strength to strength, maybe this is because it is run by Farmers for Farmers and country folk in general so its a great day out and a show case for stock. Maybe we will get a few more dexter exhibitors from outside the county now. It would be nice to see stock from further a field. :)
