"What an exciting time for ALL Dexter breeders and owners, they must be proud and optimistic of the breeds future"
This was a comment given to me today by a highly respected commercial beef breeder.Already the record breaking prices from the Knightsway sale are gaining the Dexter as a BREED respect and acclaim in the wider farming world.
There were three new breed records SMASHED:
SHORTLEGGED COW KNIGHTSWAY JODY 6,400GNS(former breed record 2,600 gns 2005)
NON SHORT COW KNIGHTSWAY DORIS 3000GNS (former breed record 1350gns 2004)
BULL AND OVERALL RECORD KNIGHTSWAY PADDY 8,800GNS(former bull record 2,300gns 2007)
Many, many congratulations must go to Judy Knight and also Mike Kemmish for the quality and presentation of stock(and many other dexter helpers on the day)and the absolute professionalism in which the sale was executed. What a huge compliment in a retirement sale to have breeders from across the U.K clamouring for your stock ,or attending purely for the experience of seeing breed history, and smash breed records.Talk about go out with a BANG!
What a fantastic way to go out-well done Judy, enjoy your retirement.

This was certainly a sale to be remembered. I am not sure if it will be repeated in the next few years, i for one was pleased just to be there in the first place.
I did take home a very nice show heifer with a steer at foot which upon reflection on the way the prices went on the day was a bargain.
As for getting a return on my outlay only time will tell, but i am pretty sure i will get a lot of pleasure and hopefully some show winning stock with my prefix.
Well done Judy, you played your cards perfectly and got your just rewards for the time and dedication you have put in over the years, everyone should be very gratefull.

The success of this sale were based upon:

1. The cattle being from a well-known breeder and what the buyers wanted obviously
2. There being a good quantity for sale bringing in the people
3. Good marketing

Nos 2 & 3 can be achieved around the country by simply organising dexter cattle sales on given days of the year and marketing them on the web, in the bulletin and in local papers (cheap to do). Not that these sorts of prices would be achieved, but I would extremely surprised if a great improvement could not be made for normal cattle sales for all herds instead of the very limited and random situation at the moment.
