My cows have recently given birth to two long legged bulls, and i am considering keeping them as bulls. neither have impressive genetics but i think both could be decent stock bulls. Can anyone give any advice?

although the idea of keeping them both as bulls is I'm sure appealing. the problems surrounding running two young bulls on unless they are top quality is really not worth all the trouble & they are probably worth more money as steers anyway.

I would get someone to put rubber rings on them both if they have just been born and save yourself a lot of trouble. :( :(

My response would; be, since you don’t think either of them have very impressive genetics, why would you want to keep them. If it is purely on the basis of their looks, I would say don’t bother, since they will not necessarily pass them on.
It is quite an expensive exercise, and you are unlikely to make any money out of it. There is usually a surplus of bulls on the market. In my view there can only be one reason to retain a bull calf for breeding, and that is if his dam is highly superior, since he must carry her genes, and will pass them on to his daughters

In the last week I have been presented with two bull calves from a bull of good pedigree (Moomin Apollo). Both have been steered and will go for beef and I am looking for a bull!
