We have bought a lovely new cow!

Image

Her name is Nutlin Ginger Spice, she doesn't seem to have the temperament to go with the name, so far anyway she seems very gentle and docile.

She is in the central stable between our horses to give her some company at night at least, as we are isolating her from the rest of the herd for the first 2 weeks she is here.

Thank you Issy and Anna.

Yes she is we are told in calf and due in August.

When she first arrived she was willing to eat whatever hay the horses had left as well as her own which was a very useful attribute. However now she doesn't even twitch an eyelash if I put their leftovers in her rack, she is fully aware that there is a very nice slice of sweet smelling untouched hay with her name on it and that I cannot stand to leave her without. So I can now tell you, with some degree of reliablity that I can spoil a cow in less than a week!

I wouldn´t think a dexter is easier spoiled than any other cow, but as often mentioned here on the forum - they are really smarter than other cows. At least compared to the ones I know. More like goats I would say. And compared to the goats I know, the dexters are faster learners. They are funny really, but sometimes it would be easier to have some cows.

I totally agree Anna Dexters are certainly bright little bovines. We have only got a few but they know a thing or two! I think it makes them more interesting to keep though doesn't it.

Congratulations Stephanie. Spice looks red in the photo. She is obviously very happy. Perfect future partner for your little bull.

Thank you Margaret, Yes she does look a bit red in the photo but she is dun. The incorrect colour in the pic is because I'm no good at all at taking pics indoors, especially of cattle because to take the whole cow the flash is too far away to light her properly and it affects the colour - sorry. Amazingly the flash doesn't bother her at all but then I imagine ALL of The Spice Girls are well used to flash photography by now aren't they?

I should probably learn to use Photoshop and then I could adjust her back to the correct colour but it is very complicated and will take me months to get in to it!!!

Yes Sue you are correct, she has relatives in North Devon.

When we first met Spice we were on a visit to her previous owners to buy some Dexter beef and of course had a look at their herd at the same time. They keep mostly red and black so I was a bit surprised to see a dun and thought she had a certain look about her. So I did expect to find there was a little Woodmagic in her but actually as it turns out she is mostly Woodmagic and was cheeky enough to ask if they would lke to sell her.

When she goes out in the day with the others in another week, I shall hopefully get a better picture to show her colour, if I do I shall post another - just to prove that she is really dun!

And they say the camera never lies !! I clicked on your picture and was taken straight to your photobucket site Saffy. I copied the pic, hope you don't mind, and ran it through my photo edit programme, eventually by altering the saturation she turned dun. Problem is I can't remember how to stick pics on this site or I'd upload it and put everyones' mind at rest that you aren't colourblind :D
