I wonder if anyone is able to help ....
I have today found 2 heifers that I would like to purchase BUT it would appear I am not allowed to as these heifers are in England and I'm in Wales.
Does anyone know anyway around this or in fact when the restriction may be lifted. It has been suggested by Trading standards that it may take 12 - 18 months before restrictions are lifted. Of course if Blue tongue is discovered in Wales then I guess we would be allowed to bring these girls home......

Hi there i'm in the same situation. we live in Wales and we would like to buy some stock from England but as far as i no stock can move from clean areas in to bluetongue zone but can not return. the stupid thing is that you can drive through a bluetongue zone transporting stock to a clean zone. i suppose it will depend how harsh of a winter we have because this will in theory kill the midges carrying bluetongue and prevent them from spreading any more damage to an already weak and fragile industry. there was talk supposedly going on that the whole of the UK should be put in a bluetongue zone. which should help everyone and we should be able to get back to some sort of normallity hopefully!!!!! hope this helps. matt
P.s does anyone have two maiden heifers that are for sale outside of the bluetongue zone and are not that far from north wales. as i would like to suprise my girlfriend thanks

Ask me after next Thursday. If all goes well I'll have enough Dexters for sale to satisfy anyone's needs unless they want bulls or dun cows.

I'm a bit confused (nothing new, I suppose). Have there been any outbreaks of bluetongue in cattle in the UK? I understand that it isn't too bad for cattle but devastating for sheep.
