Have just read that early next year it is proposed to let animals up to 30 months back into the beef trade.without having to remove the vertebral column. The EU Standing Committee on Food Chain and Animal Health have voted to increase the age for removel of bovine vertebral column from 24 to 30 months. The decision is subject to the statutory three month scrutiny process by the European Parliament.
There you go a little bit of good news
so nice to have some positive news. To have 3 different systems, for up 24 months, 24-30 months and over 30 months is challenging for producers and butchers/abattoirs alike.
Is common sense going to prevail?!
Does that mean the butchers' licence to 24 months will be extended to 30 months or will they have to buy an extra one as now?
Most butchers in our area only cut up to 24 months so I am only half pleased so far
As one thing goes a new one comes along to take it's place i.e. bt I am waiting for something through the post to tell me to start recording the numbers of midges!
