I think that keeping Shamba locked away by himself is cruelty. I don't think the Hindus are thinking of the animal at all.

Precisely, Clive. As you have probably seen, this group have now turned away the people who went to collect the bullock saying they needed a warrant. And have barricaded him behind a group of worshipping Hindus daring them to disrupt a religious ceremony. What tosh. This group are, as I have said before, acting selfishly. If they cared for this animal's welfare he would not have been kept alone and indoors, this is a political issue pure and simple.

Yes it is sad when people have to have things forced on them which contradict genuinely held beliefs. However I have read in the Veterinary Record today that the post mortem examination of Shambo has revealed visible evidence of Bovine Tuberculosis in the bronchial tract. I think that if this goes on to give a positive culture then the other animals on the farm will have a more severe interpretation put on their test figures, and there may then be two more classified as reactors and five as inconclusives.

No doubt if this happens it will cause more upset to the community at Skanda Vale, but it looks to me as though they themselves, let alone their other animals were at risk if the TB was in the respiratory tract.
