By the way, are you on a Quad in the stampede, if so,how did you get the video

Hi Mark. I was driving and holding the camera with the other hand which is why it goes wonky at the end. I was actually on a Kawasaki Mule. I do have a quad as well, but my main bull thinks it's a nice cow and quite fancies it (not joking), so I avoid the quad if I can. :D :D

Putting the video on was easy. You showed me how. You did a link to the photo on Photobucket, or wherever you had it, instead of uploading the image to the site itself. So all I did was upload videos to Photobucket and then put the link in. This could actually be a really useful feature if people want to show videos of what they are discussing.

How about dextercattleforsale with videos instead of / as well as photos? Get the seller to upload a short video to Photobucket, then they or someone put a link to it on a site and you get a real moving look at the bull. So much better than a still photo in many ways.

The only downside with Photobucket is it's a real advertising site with games and such, and a good source of bad pop-ups it looks like to me. Be very careful not to say Yes or No to any pop-ups saying "would you like to play a game?". Even if you say No, or close the pop-up, you may still get loads of spam afterwards.

Anyone know a similar site without ads? Probably doesn't exist.

Interesting picture Saffy. Is it one non short and one short cow? Both grown ups? Can you say anything about their approximate height? I have never seen a short cow live, so it would be interesting to compare the non short with my cow to get an idea of how they really look. (Where do you people meassure your cattle? I am used to talk about height over the sholders, but I have noticed on the forum that height by the hip is mentioned.)

Hello Anna,

I am sure the owner won't mind me saying - they are both non short i.e. don't carry the dwarf gene.

They are both adult cows and were photographed last Wednesday at Beryl Rutherfords Woodmagic Herd in Devon.

I am sure Beryl can tell us more about them but that is all I know - I just thought they looked lovely.

If you have your own website, you can post pictures there, perhaps on a hidden, non-linked page and then post them here, by using the url from your site. Also, you could post videos on youtube, and provide the link here on this site (or send to others).

Photobucket has worked great for me. I was wondering how they pay for the free service. I have pop-ups blocked and haven't had any pop-ups or spam, so haven't seen any advertising - Until you folks pointed it out, I was unaware.

That's interesting. I use a Mac without any virus etc software because it's not needed. I have pop-ups blocked. But on the Photobucket site I got a strange, shaking pop-up asking me to play a game, a type that I have only ever seen once before and that caused me lots of hassle. I tried to close it and nomatter what I did it behaved as though I had said yes I wanted to play. I haven't had any spam or anything, and everything has worked fine.

Thank you Kirk for all the pictures we have had as a result of your instructions. Not being able to look at other folks herds these days I do appreciate pictures, and have thoroughly enjoyed ‘visiting’ so many in this last week.
I am very fortunate too, that Stephanie came to see me, since when I have been showered with wonderful pics., and have seen more of my cows than I have been able to do for several years.
When she arrived, I instructed her to look for the difference in the two types, fortunately a friend has a couple of non-Woodmgic cows staying with me. What I didn’t expect was such a good illustration captured on camera. The two cows earlier in this string Anna, are both non-carriers, the one is a run of the mill, beefy not terribly big longer leg, the other is a Woodmagic of the type I have aimed for, which I maintain is the sort of animal you could have found on the Irish mountains a few centuries ago, and which was largely lost in trying for more beef while the bulldog gene was not understood. That unwanted gene had to come in from a bigger breed, hence the danger of breeding for the bigger animal, quite apart from the singular attraction of the small size.

Forgot to say. The bull in the last set is Rhinoceos H.B.5051 four years old, originally kept as a stop gap, when I lost the young one I had intended to retain with black leg. Rhino has proved well worth keeping.

Even more interesting, that the two of them both are non-carriers! To me they are proof enough that the dwarf gene not is needed.
