Whoopppeee - Caroline is through to what I believe is the last but one stage with her Dexter Beef & Mushroom Pie. She's off to London in the next 2 days to do more studio work. She'll now be head-to-head this time with someone cooking lamb.

All the sessions have been filmed, so presumably they will be selecting which to put in the programs. I will post precise details when available but I think it's going to be on TV every weekday, 5 till 6 p.m., for about 6 weeks starting early September, or something like that.

We had ITV here today at the farm. They took loads of footage, of the cattle mainly, but only a bit will be shown of course. One of the things filmed was when we moved my biggest group of 70 from one field, where there they were getting fed up, to a new field with loads of clover. I think the cameraman expected them to gently walk down the 1/4 mile runway between the two fields like dairy cattle going in for milking.

We held them back as best we could, like the start of the Grand National, but they broke through and we ended up chasing all 70 at full gallop in my mule (quad) like on safari! Unfortunately the cameraman, who was hanging on for dear life bouncing up and down at 20 miles an hour in the pickup bit at the back, was pointing the wrong way for half of it because it took him by surprise.

What fun you do have, Clive, well done for all the publicity you are gaining for Dexters. I wonder if the cameraman's efforts will end up in one of those 'TV's funniest bits' sort of programmes? I hope someone else was filming him.

Excellent publicity, I wish I could have been there to watch the stampede. The atmosphere in a mob of excited happy Dexters is contagious. Typical Dexter, as Sylvia says, pity nobody was filming the camera crew.

Beryl/Sylvia, you've gven me an idea. Maybe we should have Dexter races at the shows? Now that would bring in publicity! I think my mule does 25 mph flat-out, and I can only just overtake them when they're really going for it! I'll be betting on non-shorts. :;):

Why have a quad bike when you have 70 Dexters to ride? Train the right one and head the stampeed yourself.

I wish I had 70 to run in a stampeed, what fun!

Glad I haven't got 70 - forty seem to be making a very good job of wrecking the electric fence every day as it is. Wish I had the land for 70 though.

Congratulations for doing so well, its brilliant for all. As for riding the cattle, I'd much rather ride my cow Lilly than most of the horses you get round here anyday! She spooks at nothing and is too fat now to go at top speed!

Hi

My wife, Caroline has lost out in the competition to the lamb dish that she was head-to-head with last Sunday at the ITV Studios in London. She cooked what she said was her best pie ever, and it went into the tasting room with the lamb dish. The lamb came back with just a corner missing, but the pie was virtually all gone. But the lamb won nevertheless. There you go! It was a battle of styles as well, as the lamb was a Michelin Chef style presentation, and a work of art. The pie was just yummy, yummy.

However, it's not all lost by any means. The program, which is called "ITV Britain's Best Dish 2007", is due to start broadcasting on 3rd Sept and will go on until 10th October or thereabouts, this year, and it is on 5 till 6 p.m. every weekday (prime TV cookery time). As it's format is something like the X-Factor, we think it will follow the progress of each competitor with film clips and interviews. Please note that this is what we were led to believe and cannot be guaranteed.

We hope to use what we have for getting reviews and pointers to Dexter Beef Online when we have permission from ITV. This may not happen until the show is over.

I have years (too many) of experience in marketing and business, and to me it's a long, gradual slog and every little event takes you a step further, and this is one of them thanks to Caroline. She did an enormous amount of work on this project, in fact it completely took over her life for weeks. And we both really enjoyed the experience, especially the filming at the farm.

Regards.

Disappointing that after all her hard work Caroline didn’t make it, but I is still wonderful advertising, and I have no doubt that you will continue to make the best possible outcome from it. The Dexter breed should be grateful to both of you

Being immersed in the wonderful quality of our beef it is all too easy to forget that most people are not familiar with the breed. Talking about what makes the farms produce so special the other day made me realise this- national TV coverage will do you, and the breed much good & thanks for keeping us all informed about her progress (and if ever you get sick & need to appoint a new chief taster, I could be persuaded...

I don't know Kathy, and I can't see anything to indicate it does.

The web site is at ITV Britain's Best Dish but it doesn't say much at the moment.

PS. Just found this and it appears to offer worldwide tele on the web...http://wwitv.com/. Haven't tried it.
