It is very interesting reading all these viewpoints. As a shopper I like to be given a small discount as a new customer or a regular. However, I do expect to pay a price that is close to goingrate for that product, if it is too low I feel that the product is below standard and go elsewhere! Customers who want nice meat will pay the right price and those who want value will go to the supermarket for offer of the week. If you sell too cheaply then rise the price to match everyone else, then surely you stand to loose a high proportion of customers? As a farmer my viewpoint is meat prices need to be consistent as you are competing against each other instead of working with each other and damaging what hardwork is being done by so many! Breeders should rightly sell stock and make a profit, some will obviously make more than others looking at this site! It is such a shame to read your comments on making a loss Sylvia.

According to my quick calculcations in my head, and I have only just woken up, if you sell at £6 a kilo or even £6.50, then you might as well just sell to a butcher and get the same money net of killing/butchering costs. So a price of £8 is to me, is bare minimum and to be frank more like £9-10 would be more realistic and worthwhile. The price on DBOinfo are not mine, they are an average of actual in the market prices from all over the country.
Dexter Beef is selling well at these prices already.
Yes, they are kilos Mark! I wish they were lbs.
