Caroline has just phoned in from London to say she has won her section "Main Course" and is through to the next stage with her Dexter Steak & Mushroom Pie. The pie was tasted by John Burton-Race, Jilly Goolden and Ed Baines. Ed said her pastry was delicious. I can vouch for that?

Well done Caroline. Can we assume she has had some very competent tasters advising her at home?

Yes you can and I had to take some trousers back today for the next size up which proves my total dedication.

It's a bit confusing with different bits all over the country now coming together. Caroline thinks that within a week or so they will have narrowed it down to just four people. I had pie again last night and it was really stunning. Yes, the recipe will be for sale for a very high price when this is all over. We need the money to pay for my new next-size-up trousers.

Well done both of you, excellent publicity for the breed, and wish you the best of luck for the next stage, Caroline. You will need to start running races with your Dexter calves, to keep that weight down Clive.

Marvellous - congratulations to Caroline and the poor, put-upon tasters!
What an achievement - we know the meat is good but the cooking is extremely important. I have become very lazy these days ... the meat is so good I don't make the effort I did when cooking 'normal' meat Thank goodness Caroline puts in the hours!
Good luck

Good luck Caroline we all wish you well. Clive as far as the trousers are concerned you can buy a nice line in expanding waist ones now. I know as my wife has recently bought me a pair!

Fabulous news, well done. Is it still raining because of pie tasting? Normally one would expect sun in the summer, but I guess pie needs a colder, wetter climate to be at its very best!
