Hello,

I am probably covering a topic that has been covered before but I can't find it.

Is there a book or leaflet I can buy that gives guidelines to look for in good dexter conformation? I already have Beryl's wonderful book.

Obviously I want good feet and legs and a good topline but what makes an animal essentially dexter? What are the features that make a good dexter as opposed to another good little beef cow?

I have learnt a bit by skulking around in the shadows of the site for a couple of years and now if you look in "wanted" you will see I have decided to take the plunge.

Feel free to deluge me with answers and/or point me to previous posts! Skulking around in the shadows you miss a bit here and there!!!

Stephanie :)

The American Dexter Cattle Association (ADCA) in the US is in the process of updating their conformation classification program. They have a pretty good document showing preferred conformation. It is for the US organization, but it might prove useful to others to see what they are doing. You'll find a link to the classification document on the first page of their website.

Hi Stephanie,
I know the Dexter Society has a 'spec sheet' on what to look for in a Dexter. When I first joined I was sent one (where it is now I have no idea) but the office at Stoneleigh may be able to help, or your local group organiser.
