We took a steer in for killing at 29 months this morning and have just had the abertoir on complaining the vet had found it was a 6teeth animal so has to go for BSE testing and delaying the butchering of the 3 in front and the 3 behind - i don't think we are very popular. Clearly the passports shows it as under 30 months but i was under the clear impression that the vet thought we were conning the system and the animal was in fact older. We bought the steer in 12 months ago and were under the impression that all was okay. Is it common in dexters for them to get their 6 teeth early or do you think we were sold a beast that had infact been registered late?

Your thoughts would be welcomed

I am fasinated by your letter and have spoken to a couple of people who's opinion I greatly respect and they felt the sixth tooth would only appear between four years(youngest) and six years(oldest), I there can only sumise that it was a freek of nature because I am sure you would have noticed if the steer was over twenty four months.
