Whilst one does not want to tempt fate - what jolly good news that after 10 years there is a good chance that UK beef and cattle exports may start again later this year.

It is indeed excellent news BUT and it is a big BUT - we need to be able to sell meat on the bone for the gourmet market and 24 months is really too short a time on the hoof. I have asked DEFRA/SEERAD what they are doing about exemptions and they say that individual breed societies are taking that up..... is our society working on this Ted?

Qu'est que c'est "goalposts"

As regards the twenty-four months, Caroline Rider is making representations.
Speaking personally - I am from the old school believing that dexters are fairly quick maturing and can be finished around 18 months and produce a good carcase, (the old adage two seasons on grass). Old Dexter Society information guides (circa 20 years ago) said that Dexters were capable of being finished between 14 and 18 months.
