Dexter Cross Calves

Post by Broomcroft »

Here you go, something a bit different. This year I crossed my Dangus and Dexter cows with a Stabiliser bull. Supposed to be easy calving (so far so good!) and grow well thereafter. Had our first few calves, here's a couple of pics:

And this is a Stabiliser X Dangus (Angus-Dexter cow):

Hi Jim, I don't know yet but I think they look polled. All the Dangus cows are polled (visually) but most will carry a horn gene inherited from it's Dexter dam, apart from one where the Dexter dam was polled as well. My Stabiliser bull is polled buy has little scurs. I don't know whether he carries a horn gene or not, his sire didn't but I don't know about the dam.

I do have another calf out of a Dangus and I've felt her head, and she is definitely polled. But that one is from a line of polled pedigree Dexters crossed with a pedigree Angus.
