I have my next steer going for slaughter shortly and would like to have the hide tanned. Does anyone know where I might be able to get this done?

Oh, too far. I was thinking of a small abattoir on the Welsh borders that has someone who collect hides for tanning, although it's a few years since I met the guy. I was going to suggest you phone them to get details of the person who does it.
But maybe phone up abattoirs local to you. They might know someone? Or even butchers might know someone.

a few years ago I did a deer hide the same way as a sheep s used wholemeal flour ,egg alum cooking oil.turned out ok amased the hair did not fall out had to get rid of the fleas first with spray.did not cost alot and if it did not turn out right what had I lost.going to have a go at a hide in the winter too many flies now and the skin drys out too fast.
