I always try to worm my cattle when we move them. If you haven't had cattle on your grass for at least a year you have pasture that is free from worms that are likely to infect your cows. I also worm when I bring them in for winter as this means you are only feeding your cows your expensive winter fodder and not the worms. You will find that your cows will have some degree of immunity or tollerance to worms, but your calves will not. Younger cattle are at more risk from severe attacks of worms etc. and you should talk to either your local vet or local friendly farmer to determine whether you have any specific problems whithin your locality. I worm my youngsters more often than older cattle but do tend to be carefull not to underdose or to give them un-neccessary meds that they do not need.
