Firstly we had a bull born last december outside on the hill. In temperatures of about -14 to -20. what a little star fit healthy and has thrived.
i had to get him in the crush the other day to sort a missing and a damaged tag out. i then realised his ears were nothing but little stumps. no wonder the tags were coming out! i can only assume he got frost bite on his little wet ears when he was born.
He now has the name stumpy!
secondly, i had a trip to france in october as part of a scottish contingent representing scottish produce. we took over seafood, black pudding haggis, pork etc etc. we put on a buffet as part of the brittany film festival for all the stars. they loved it.
as part of the trip we were taken around endless producers and restaurants. some of the restaurants had stars, and what a difference to the pretentious tv stars we have here, they were all interested in us and wanted to ask us about our produce.
trying to cut a long story short.... this trip was a return trip the french had been to scotland in the april. they had seen my dexters and had a day with us. various things had happened whilst they were at sunnyside and they had shall we say... seen a bit of farming life as it is! i hadnt realised what an impression the coos and i suppose me had made on them. but our guides related to these high and mighty upto 2 star chefs the story of the wee coos with the horns and how they came running, how we had battled to get an old cow up and the piglets that ran under the gates and how good lunch had been.
i now have a load of michelin starred french chefs wanting to come over and see the Dexters and i actually ran out of business cards. i am sure they wont ever turn up but it was nice to hear the complements and interested comments.
gone on too long

Hey Dom what a brilliant experience, have you export orders to France then, dead or alive!

Never sent anything further than England!!
I had nothing to gain or sell on the trip, i was simply there for the ride and found myself the centre of attention. Quite laughable really.

Well - send them my way If they are after "french" dexter beef or animals - there is certainly interest over here but its getting the 'little cows' promoted over here thats difficult and time consuming !!
