can anyone tell me the prices of animals at melton mowbrey and what the animals were like.

Prices overall low.

Congratulations to Rob Wendorf with his non short bull Riverside Shadow getting top price of 1120gns. The other younger non short bull forward did not sell in the ring but privately afterwards. A short legged bull aged 2 years did not sell at 500 gns.

On the female side prices were much lower. Top female was short legged red (Breed Champion) 3 years old at 770gns, 5 year old short leg cow 450gns, 4 year old short red cow and baby steer at foot
450gns, 4 year old short legged heifer 300 gns, 4 year old short cow 360gns, (tiny!)short red cow and heifer calf 200gns, nonshort heifer 9 months 290gns,

2 Females were not forward. 6 non short females did not sell (I think several did not even get bids) 1 9 month old short legged heifer did not sell at 320gns and that was a genuine bid.

ALL CATTLE PRICES OF ALL BREEDS WERE VERY DEPRESSED. Plenty of cattle of all breeds were taken home. Short legged females and non short bulls sold here. This region has had very, very low rainfall and people are desperatly worried about winter feed, that was reflected today. Plus the combined general economic gloom, 1 and 2 years ago the females would easily have had a number 1 infront of those figures. A great year for buyers/beginers (if they have forage)

I think the quality of stock forward was good (or hope so anyway!)

I think Carlilse and York should be abit better as they have had better rain and so grass.

well summed up Lisa. A funny day all round I think for prices, a buyers market this year. Some fab cattle for good prices. We wait and see if the sale goes ahead next year as numbers being sold were low for most breeds. Only one Belted Galloway, no Highlands this year or White Park.

i would just like to thank mick oliphant and steve adcock for their duties at the show i know you were not over run with animals but good job done and also thanks to our judge mr creasey, i would also like to personaly thank mick and mark for their support over the 2 days as it was rarther more emotional that i thought it would be parting with our young homebred bull nero and many tears where shed, at least he has gone to a very nice home and good luck to all at apple dexters with their new bull nero ,thanks again for everybody that helped out ,
