I must have been an evil person in my previous life and its catching up with me now. I waited for ever to get cows, my husband was wanted to work abroad, he ended up changing his job, and then the inevitable happens.. He has been asked to work abroad by the new lot. Last time I was lucky enough not to have to sell the girls as he moved companies. This time I was well prepared advertised them, got some replies but the lady I really liked the most, was outside the protection zone. I have just pulled out of the sale today as it is too complicated, we haven't even had our vaccine yet, let alone wait the three weeks, then the 35 days and blood tests or 60 days. Do you ever feel like your banging your head against a brick wall. It is easier working with criminal teenagers than defra, I have done both. So that leaves me thinking that I might as well take these two to the freezer and be done with it. Not exactly what I had in mind, but a wife duly follows her husband.... Anyone out there who would like to girls for the freezer? I really couldn't eat them myself.
Welcome to the wonderful world of farming where making plans and seeing them through is not down to your skill, care or what you did in a past life but to so many things outside your control that it is a miracle that anything ever gets done. Cynical ? Moi? I had a phonecall today telling me that 3 animals I'm selling don't exist. I have their passports in front of me, they are in the barn with their eartags in, they are listed on the BCMS site and Saffy took photos of some of them last Sunday, but someone in an office in our local town says they don't exist. :p

Well my girls have gone today and I feel sick to the core. I'm hoping that my husband keeps his word and will retire early at 50, 8 and a bit years to go .................................................. Then we can settle down and really get stuck into the dexters. Am glad as they went to really lovely home, I got a good price for them too. Same zone as well, still haven't received the bt vaccine yet which I find disturbing, midges have been about for weeks. Would like to say a very big thank you for so much wonderful advice and warmness from most of you. I do wish this squabbling would stop as it is causing so much bad feeling. It seems to be a never ending circle for the breed, I think it is doing a lot of damage at the moment. Now got a few smaller beasties to move on. Wishing all the best for the lovely DEXTER, Estelle
