Dexter Beef on Tele this week

Just a reminder that Caroline Taylor will be on ITV1 on Wed 17th & Friday 19th October at 5 p.m. for one hour.

As the whole week commencing Monday 15th Oct is the UK Midlands section of the program, they could televise something on any of the days during the week, including shots on the farm possibly, but Wed and Friday are when she will be actually featured doing her cooking.

We hope all goes well but it must be remembered this is a competition and they may not like the beef or the pie! One dish last week they said was horrible and another was like eating compost, so we await the program with slight trepidation. On the Friday program, we couldn't actually use the beef we wanted because of almost no notice. Caroline had to get down to London almost within hours on a Sunday with whatever beef we had and then use unfamiliar equipment. Excuses, excuses, get them in now is what I say!

What I can tell you is that cooked at home the recipe really is a stunner and will be available on the ITV Best Dish site after the program has been broadcast.

I am recording the programs on my computer and I may be able to supply clips on DVD for use in marketing. I would have to ask ITV about that.

The pie looked fantastic and son is printing off the recipie as I type in anticipation :D . Sure it won't be as good by the time I have finished with it :laugh: .

Well done Caroline, you did a great job, Dexters got a good mention. You got thru even with not being happy with your pastry!

Caroline - well done. The Dexter beef obviously wowed the judges - you may have them as your customers later on!

Well done Caroline, I don't think Dexter beef could have had better publicity. Not only your scrummy looking pie but also the complimentary comments by the judges about Dexter beef. Wonderful.

Caroline can't speak because she's having her hair done :;):. It brought a tear to my eye when the chefs started saying how fantastic the beef was and I haven't jumped so high since Bobby Moore in 1966.

What you don't see is that she also won another "heat" the same week which is off-tele, so she will be in the Midlands regional final this Friday.

The beef was a mixture of the beef from a number of farms, including ours, proving even more how special it is and not just one particularly nice piece. That was deliberate on our part. Dexter is the best beef on this planet and using it in a recipe is like cheating. The look on the chefs faces said even more than what they said. Brilliant.

Wonderful! Caroline is really a star - she wasn't happy with her pastry but that is what swung it with the judges and there was less gravy than they would like!
The opposition was also rather good I think though perhaps a bit too many items in the game pie perhaps .... they liked it though so it makes Caroline's win even better!

Well the Dexter pie certainly got my vote. FAAANTASTIC. I've printed off the recipe and Bosslady has promised to cook it. Just need to get my hands on some Dexter beef now to close the deal early (mine won't be ready for a long time). That apple pie also looked good. Printed that off too and left it on the kitchen table.

And didn't they keep mentioning how good Dexter beef is. Great publicity. Many thanks to you and Caroline, Clive.

Commiserations Caroline, but well done for raising the profile of Dexter beef throughout the country, lets hope that lots of people ask their butchers for Dexter beef from now on! We can't wait to see your cows 'in the flesh as it were' next year at the Midland group AGM.

Thank you Clive and Caroline(the cheques in the post Clive) since the TV program I have had four enquiries about Dexter beef. I have a couple of heifers ready next month I believe, and hope to satisfy the current demand and encourage future custom. Has anyone got any steers for sale?
I have also an enquiry for deboned fore quarters from someone selling pies at farmers markets. Has anyone any idea how much I should be charging for this, bearing in mind all the best cuts come from the hind quarter?

Martin I would ask for as much as you can get because boning the fore-quarter will take time so will cost more. I would ask £4.40/kg and see how it goes. Congratulations to your Wife and enjoy the extra trade.:D
