Really smart calf

Have you ever noticed how some animals are really clever? The newest calf, who was less than 24 hours old and didn't move around much, decided to seek shelter against the side of the house. In order to do so, he plowed through a double electric wire fence (it was energized). After the second time of retrieving him, I gave up and removed the fence (it was a corner of the paddock that had a good perimeter fence, just wanted to keep the cows away from some shrubs) and he happily spent the night there. The other calf (one week old) never did figure it out. This morning it was really pouring so I thought he should have better shelter and forced him inside the little sheep shed with his mom. Now guess where he hangs out to get out of the rain?? That shed was open all night and none of the other guys went inside. Sure interesting to watch the different characters develop.....

As long as their intelligence is used for good things and not bad ones, I'm happy. We've had a couple with rather unpleasant personalities. It was most satisfying to eat them. :;):
