Before troubling the secretary, does anyone on here (e.g. the long suffering Duncan!) know if the DNA test that can be arranged through the society can also be done on bones? I've got some archaeological specimens that are beautifully preserved and are dead ringers for short leg Dexters. I'd like to know if these animals were or were not BD-C. I'm sure I don't have to spell out the possible implications of this.

Hello Louisa, how did you know I am suffering? If only I knew what I am suffering from I could maybe do something about it.

You're a star. As ever, many thanks for prompt response. Long suffering as the first port of call for any technical livestock info. After decades of moaning at PhD students wanting data & info, I'm now in the happy position of role reversal and plaguing everyone else.

Just to say that the VHL Genetics website is totally user unfriendly. The home page comes up no problem but has no postal address. There is a message that to view the menu one needs Java Routine Environment. I tried 3 machines & 2 web browsers in the Dept Archaeology but no joy. Then pestered 2 of our inhouse IT boffins, who also failed to access the menu. In desperation I then went to the University IT Helpdesk, who were also unable to open the menu, despite having all whizzy JAVA bits on their state of art machines. So, has anyone actually managed to access the menu on this website and if so how did you do it! Here I am with a pilot project that, if successful, could be part of major research grant application & this firm does not seem to want me & my potential money to talk to them!
