THe cattle certainly know who is who in the herd and 6 months is not a long memory time. The mother of my bull gained greatly in the leader stakes - fought for her position and remained there. Previously she had seemed quite happy to be 2nd in command!
I often find families standing/lying together in the field and Sunbeam still gives Sultan a wash although he is over 5 years old now!
I also agree about cows chasing their owners Hmmmmmm Why did they do it? Being moved is NOT a good reason. Being divided from a very young calf would be perhaps... but only 'perhaps'.
I like animals to run towards me because they want to be scratched or fed!

The only time I expect my Dexters to run towards me is if I am standing at the gate calling them to move to another field. The cows that like to be scratched, patted and generally made a fuss of in the field stand steady as a rock and I walk to them. Those are the rules. A cow or bull (or ram) which charged at me or anyone else legally on the farm would not do it twice. What am I running here, a dictatorship? You bet. All the animals on the farm are a good deal stronger than me, it only works because we all know our places.
