Many thanks for the last couple of supportive messages.
I think the council is correct in changing from the bulletin to another method of communication, the problem though with all change is that it will upset people.
As a new reader of course I do not have the background of reading previous issues or the history attached to some of the authors. My opinions are those of a newcomer but as with most situations in life "a new broom (perhaps?) sweeps clean.
What was interesting was the strength of feeling for a publication that few readers support with articles or information.
I must though have a lot of sympathy for whoever it is that tries to change an established portion of the DCS. If my comments on the bulletin inspire such a response as they have done then I dread to think what the response would be on something far "more" important.
Good luck to the council--they will need it!

I am not sure where you get your ‘silent majority’ from Ted, about twenty ‘pro bulletin’, and two against. As I said before, we could probably all find something we would like to change, but I note the contributors who have experience of doing the job themselves are much less critical. Alistair gives a comprehensive answer to most of the points raised by Chris, with the advantage of having been an editor.
I have sent my e-mail in support of the Bulletin to the Council members via the office, and would ask any member who would like to maintain the Bulletin, that they do likewise. The e-mail address is: secretary@dextercattle.co.uk, and date of next Council meeting is the 24th, so please, do it now.
If it goes, a yearly periodical will not provide the support or two-way communication needed, while poor quality substitutes during the year will exacerbate the impression of a second rate Society

my letter to council has go today in surport of the bullentin with suggestions for some changes.

I'm not sure how many overseas members we have but I'm sure they would rather have a bullentin than newsletters, hopefully if the log onto the discussion board they will e-mail the sec to

I was given 7 back issues a couple of years ago and I read them from cover to cover. They are beautifully done and are a credit to the breed. I will keep them to reread on occasion and to use for looking up someone's address or info on some bull. :)
