At the recent Christmas Primestock Show & Sale held at Leek Market, Staffordshire a 370Kg Dexter steer sold for 400p/Kg and realised £1,480. The steer was sold by Walter Machin, Grindon, Leek and was bought by Morgan’s Butchers, Telford. To put this price into perspective the Champion, a 535kg Black Limousin Heifer sold for 690p/Kg and the Reserve Champion, a 640Kg British Blue steer sold for 360p/Kg. Congratulations to Mr Machin on his achievement and also the good publicity for the breed by this sale and coverage in the market report.

Fantastic news. We need more publicity for this sort of return.

At £4 per kg its hardly worth taking the animal to slaughter yourself and selling the beef with all its extra costs. At £6 plus per kg i would get into proper large scale breeding and make my fortune!
