13 cows 230 - 410 guineas average 301.50
13 heifers 170 - 430 guineas average 216.9
six spring 2017 steers 195 - 260 average 225

3 bulls 140, 140 and 300 guineas, though I don't think any of them sold

I bought two March 2017 steers for 195 each - for the benefit of anyone wanting to judge them for size I weighed them today and they were 198 & 224kg or 97p per kg

Out of interest Rob, how does the Sept 2017 born steer you got from me compare in weight?

Unfortunately I didn't think about weighing him before I released him into the Ings with the others. I'm going to weigh them all when we gather them next time so I'll let you know. I really should get the weigh scale permanently set up somewhere.

I know a lot of people are not able to take their steers through to finishing, however at the prices some are fetching it certainly won't make the books balance

I would also point out that a lot of work went into all the heifers I sold this year. I started halter training them as baby calves. The four 2018 heifers then had 2 weeks of regular training in Aug, including walking as pairs. Followed by four local shows so they became used to loading, travelling, small children, dogs & background noise. They had to be sufficiently quiet for Paul to be able to lead them while on two crutches. This proved a decisive selling point as one was bought by a family with a disabled child.

At least all your hard work paid of just wish more people realized if your present your animals properly it pays.
