What if,
I transfer my small herd in name to my grandaughter to reduce my membership by £25!! is that aceptable?
What if,
10, 20, or 30 other members do the same!!!
It would reduce fees!!
Junior Members Herds
Given the cost of raising a child I don't think it makes commecial sense having one just to save a few pounds on membership fees. But I suppose if you have one or two hanging around anyway..... Of course Ken Hobbs has the right idea, make use of your grandchildren. none of the pain, all of the gain. Shame I haven't got any of either :p

A lot of points are raised on this site, I am trying to answer some of them where I can without betraying the Confidentiality of members or Council. If the minutes are checked you will see I did not propose this amendment or second it as it seems to be infered. I do not want to become the whipping boy for decisions made by all of Council. I am trying to put a different perspective on it. I am Treasurer, I have to look after the funds of the Society, which is your money.I have to look at all way of saving and producing fund to keep the Society viable and not become Bankrupt.
After the AGM I would like to put a lot more what ifs on this site to see how you and other ordinary members would approach the subjects raised ,I am not saying it would alter decisions made by Council as the site only covers a percentage of UK members. and it will be purely personal thoughts from myself not Councils.
To answer your Question, yes of course a Junior member can have more than four animals if they pay full fees,
No one has yet answered whether the agree or disagree with my last WHAT IF. I have only eight Dexters but I pay full family Mebership and all fees that is laid down. I do not get a Discount for being on Council. Surele if parents can afford to run 6,8 or ten animals @ £400 (average) surely they can afford full membership fees, if I did not seek to close a loop hole on fees I would not be doing my job on your behalf.

The furore about Junior members was caused by the assumption that they could not have more than 4 Dexters.
If, as you say, they can have any number they wish, but can only have 4 at the reduced sub, then that seems reasonable to me.
Personally I don't find the basic fees too bad, it's the little annoying ones - along with the penalty fees - that wind people up. Perhaps it would be better to charge 12.50 (rather than 12.00) for female registration and use the money raised to swep away some of these incidental ones?

Can I ask just how many junior members there are, and therefore just how much difference that will make in subs received?
It was not for financial reasons that Ellie became a junior member with her own herd, it was to encourage her and support her to make her own decisions. To assume that parents are behind the funding is wrong. She has used her own savings accumulated over the years to purchase some of her herd rather than spending on playstation games like her brother. When it comes to selling any stock I will buy any steers off her and any profit from any other sold stock will be hers. She likes short, I like (medium!)non-short in my herd.
I have no problem with some sort of limit in numbers, but 4 seems unworkable to teach anything about developing a herd.
As said before, she is a proper stockperson, not just playing at it, and I am sure all the other junior members are too.
I have always thought that dexters owners are the nicest, most easy going people in comparison to some other groups, so I am sure there will not be many that will be devious enough to use their children or grandchildren just to save £25, Ken!
This is not about money, as far as I am concerned, but supporting our younger members. Surely age has to be the cut off as to whether you are deemed a "junior" or not, otherwise it needs renaming.

I think it would be good to get a junior group together. I know that the council are very busy at the moment because of the whole argument thing but it would be good to bring it up at a meeting or something.
To be honest, I think that it is easier (well for me anyway) to just have the herd in the family name rather than in mine. That way, mum can do paperwork for me and I can look after cows (and schoolwork I suppose).
I think that I get more enjoyment spending my money on cows rather than clothes like most other people my age. I have a friend who is similar but he keeps angora goats.

Half the money raised from the raffle last year was supposed to be used for the benefit of junior members, council made that decision, what has happened about it?
I would love to see a junior members group and maybe a weekend get together of all the junior members.
