Following on from my "Mrs Rose Freeman" question on another thread. I have had an attempted fraudulent scam regarding a Dexter Cow Sale!

I currently have six cattle advertised with photos on the Sale board (thank you Mark!) and have previously sold a lot of cattle through advertising them on this site (thank you Mark!). A few days ago I had an email from "Mrs Rose Freeman" with an address in Argyll and Bute (I did think at first it was our lovely Duncan playing a little joke!) which said (in really bad grammar - I know Duncan is well spoken!) she wanted to purchase "Judith cow" and would send her transporter to collect. We have sold cattle unseen in the past and a haulier has collected them after payment has fully cleared (not that stupid!) so that is not all that unusual.

The next email from "Rose" (because we are on first name terms now!) TOLD ME she would pay me a much larger amount by cheque than the cost of the cow, but this was a payment for her transporter, she TOLD ME I would send the haulier the extra amount (SEVERAL THOUSAND POUNDS!) immediately that I received her cheque, and I would need to send it to the haulier by immediate bank transfer.

In the last email I received "from my good friend Rose" (because she told me she was my good friend!) she asked my age, occupation and marital status (just as well I have not been sold yet at auction on Robs other thread!). She was getting cross I had not sent her the details yet!

I have given "action Fraud" all the details. The police lady said they are inundated with these, and it is very common in classified adverts. Apparently the fraudster writes out a cheque much larger than the purchase amount, and then asks the seller to refund the difference (usually by money gram or western union). The original cheque then bounces. Apparently it is very common in machinery and vehicle sales.

I always insist if people pay for cattle by cheque that the cheque fully clears first before collection/delivery, and I was suspicious about the transporter story, however I wonder how many people "my friend Rose" has conned already. Sadly I think our friendship has ended I did ask in my final email to her if she thought Judith (the cow for sale) might be more comfortable in an aeroplane seat than with her transporter, and asked how many plane seats I should book as Rose, her daughter, her USA lawyer, and her "cow doctor" were all coming to complete the transaction. She has not replied (no way to treat "your best and most endearing friend")

Phew! My friendship is back on! The lovely Rose still has not informed me how many plane seats she requires but has sent the following;

The (Apollo Judith) does not know whether to pack her suitcase or not!

perhaps you could reply by sending her message back in the proper form of English and Grammer? They must be pretty stupid not to have realised that you have sussed that it is a scam. Good luck in finding some genuine buyers for your lovely Dexters.

I have received a cheque today from the lovely Mrs Freeman in the sum of £3,850 (the cow is priced at £2000). I am not sure who her haulier is but I think £1850 for transport is a tad excessive!
It has an airmail sticker on it and the postmark is all the way from Birmingham! I think Rose might also work for the Transport and General workers Union, as the cheque is from their expenses account.

I have posted the cheque onto the Fraud Squad for clearance!

Sorry Mark, I think it would be just too dangerous for me to introduce Rose to you. I suspect Rose might be looking for an English husband for her daughter (unless you are looking at a Dexter Dowry package?), worse still you could end up with her daughter and Rose (and their entire village) moving in - just not worth it (I think Rose could be the mother in law from hell!)

"Hello Lisa,

I've just been informed by my husband's accountant that the money has been deducted in the account which means its now cleared to your account,and i will want you to go to the bank on Friday and get the cash and get back to me immediately you do that, so that i can give you the pick up agent information to send the excess funds and we can start the pick arrangement this week,waiting for your swift response,

Thanks..."

I think Rose does already keep cattle after all - plenty of Bullshit there!
