Sorry to go slightly off Dexters, but just wondered what vehicles people are using.
Have just made the decision to sack off our Land Rover, which is back in the garage for what has become it's, at least monthly visit, since buying it.

I'm thinking of an Isuzu DMax, just wondered if anyone on here had one or any opinions, or had anything else they rated.

I guess its what you want to use it for, I have a 10yr old Xtrail and it pulls my small cattle trailer no problem and is also a very comfortable ride on long journey as I don't want to have two cars to run. It will pull a bigger trailer on short journeys

I have run land rovers since 1988 and used to have a horse trailer and last 10 years an Ifor Williams 10ft demountable cattle trailer. But I have been put off by the regs on tachographs etc and at the end of 2013 I bought a 2008 Isuzu NKR 3.5ton flatbed, 50k miles on clock, got local blacksmiths to rebuild the vehicle with the body of the Ifor Williams on the back. No need for trailer, no need for tachograph, much simpler if I need to move stock or bales at short notice. Main drawback is the payload which is less than 1 ton.

Another thing, I have not managed to sell the land rover yet!

The current Land Rover is my second. The first was a 200tdi but the current one is a TD5, which has cost a small fortune to keep going, it averages a week a month in the garage, since I've had it. As well as the odd day here and there where I'm repairing or replacing bits.
Have decided my money would probably be better going on something new.

I can get a new Dmax with a tacho fitted for about a quarter a month of what the parts are costing on the Land Rover.

1995 shogun, 193,000 miles at moment. probably replace with something a bit newe soon, but limited to about 2002 if i want to transfer the old style tacho over. Or drop down to just under the weight limit maybe a freelander and TA5 trailer.

Watch out for max tow limits some are much lower than you would expect. I need a new comfortable tow car next year so I will be getting a jeep Cherokee 2.7crd. 295ft/lb and 3500kg limit add some mud terrains and fields won't be a problem with a stock box.

The 3.5ton threshold for needing a tacho refers to the maximum permissible weight - that is the combined maximum weight for the towing vehicle and the trailer. Not what you weigh at any particular moment, the maximum you are allowed to be. Which means pretty small payload if you are going to be exempt.
